WHAT IS IT THAT WE ARE FUNDING? - THE PROJECT IN MORE DETAIL

Background

In order to lift the Gloom that hangs around our portrayal in the Media and in Society, we need as individuals to actively displace the disparaging negativity that taints our portrayal, with our own take on what we can achieve from our Strengths, to transform the version of us painted by Others into something by Ourselves, which Amazes and Confounds our Detractors!

I propose to achieve this primarily with a high-impact web-site that uses the best that we can muster with writing, with art-work and in particular,
with Photography, to project a rare quality as a true representation of who we are and where we are coming from.

Digital Photography skills need to be acquired and worked on, so the third phase will concentrate on coaching aspiring photographers locally, to raise their game and produce images which displace negativity to induce the sea-change which we all seek to bring about through the removal of stigma and discrimination as factors in the lives of our people.

October-December 2009
Setting up the web-site, Extending links and feelers to widen the appeal and recruit affiliating organisations, groups and members - to gain impetus for the web-site in its early stages.

January-March 2010
Gathering materials, writing and blogging to gain further support and put ourselves about.

April-June 2010
Conducting a Photo-shoot to haul in the main body of display material, followed by processing and optimising the material, preparing slide-show/videos for distribution and posting to the internet.
July-September 2010
Conducting the one-to-one coaching project with Art in Mind contacts and aspiring photographers with mental health needs.

3 In a best-case scenario, the people with continuing mental health needs would be in a state of transition somewhere between acute ill-health and re-integration. The people connecting with this project would be at some stage between these polarities. These vulnerable, often sensitive people might be regrouping and taking stock of their lives, with some degree of detachment on the margins.

As a movement, M E M P H A S I S seeks a purposeful mobilisation of these otherwise-disengaged people, with an objective of having them re-engage with an activity that lends itself well to their current detachment, in a Project which sets out on an on-going process with the impetus to achieve our multiple objectives of both ‘EMancipating People to Have A Say In Society’, rehabilitating a group of vulnerable people - and also sets in motion a rolling campaign to de-stigmatise and remove discrimination as factors in our lives, of benefit to all of us.

5 The website is itself a vehicle for promoting our Cause . The usual modus operandus is to exchange links with other existing sites and put ourselves about with some strategic postings that help us to become established on the net. The early writing stage in this plan is important in achieving this, as is the facility in Google for placing links.
